Reunion 2024 - Wilmington, NC

Ahoy shipmates, spouses and friends!

Another great USS Goldsborough Association reunion is on the record books.  A great big thanks to Linda and Mike Nowak for planning this reunion.  With having to change hotels at the last minute and bus pickups etc., they still made it work.  The staff at the Courtyard by Marriot Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed for a successful reunion.  Many of our shipmates arrived Friday or Saturday to get an early start on the sea stories.  The hotel had a very nice hospitality room that we were able to get in Saturday and rekindle friendships.

Things really got started on Sunday as everyone else arrived and enjoyed the fellowship.  On Monday, we went to the Battleship USS North Carolina for our Memorial Service for Deceased Shipmates.  After the service, we had the choice of touring the Battleship or taking the bus downtown to enjoy the Riverwalk area.  Many of the women wanted to stay and tour the big grey ship, but we made them go shopping.  Everyone got together in the afternoon for a cruise on the Henrietta Riverboat.  On Tuesday, we all went downtown to see the rest of the Riverwalk area.  As usual, everyone seemed to find someplace to eat, have a beverage, or get some more shopping in.  Wednesday was a free to day to tour more of the area or set around and reminisce.  On Thursday morning at the annual business meeting, Bob Franklin reported that he and Tom Weaver could not find a hotel in Las Vegas that would meet our needs in our price range for the 2025 reunion.  After discussion, it was decided to move the 2025 reunion to Albuquerque, NM.  Bob said he would still plan it.  We also voted on returning to Biloxi, Ms. For the 2026 reunion.  Bob stated he would also plan that reunion.  Thursday evening was the banquet and auction.  Again, thanks to the staff at the hotel for an excellent meal.  At the auction even though he couldn’t stand for too long, Pat Taylor kept the auction going with a few jokes and comments to liven up the crowd.  Many said their goodbyes after the auction.

Everyone is looking forward to next year.  This year I believe is the first year we had Plank owners and some crewmembers from the decommissioning crew attending.  It was great seeing the regular attendees and some new faces, with new sea stories.  As I have said before, the reunions are a great way to see the country and get together with shipmates you haven’t seen in a long time.

Since we changed the 2025 reunion location, we don’t have any information to share, but we will get it out as soon as something is set up.  Hope to see you at a reunion.
